Analysis of a biogas-fed SOFC CHP system based on multi-scale hierarchical modeling

Biogas is an abundant renewable energy source which can be produced by anaerobic treatment of biological waste such as sewage sludge, agro-industrial waste, and industrial animal waste. The utilization biogas instead fossil fuels in a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)-based system promising choice to achieve fossil-free sustainable future. A biogas-fed decentralized SOFC combined heat power (CHP) model proposed analyzed. consists pre-reformer, stack, afterburner heat-recovery boiler. integrates multi-scale hierarchical three-dimensional stack with zero-dimensional balance component models, enables simultaneous investigations both the overall performance stack-internal distributed properties down electrode scale. effects steam/carbon ratio, composition operation voltage on electrical CHP efficiencies system, well temperature gradient within were studied. demonstrated insightful powerful tool for designing hybrid systems.
